A MOX Underhung Crane is a type of overhead crane that features a unique design where the hoisting mechanism and trolley run underneath the bridge girder, rather than being mounted on top, as seen in conventional overhead cranes. This design offers several advantages, especially in environments where space constraints and flexibility are important.

1. Underhung Design:

   • In an underhung crane, the trolley and hoist travel on rails mounted on the underside of the bridge girder. This is the opposite of traditional cranes, where the trolley is mounted above the girder.
   • This configuration allows for better utilization of vertical space, as the crane does not require a large gap between the bridge and the ceiling.

2. Space Efficiency:

   • The underhung crane is particularly useful in environments with low headroom or where space optimization is a concern. By utilizing the underside of the girder for travel, this design allows the crane to work in tighter spaces with less clearance required.

   • Since the underhung crane runs beneath the bridge girder, the structural requirements for the building are less demanding compared to cranes that have to support a full bridge structure on top.    • The need for additional runway support beams is reduced, which makes the installation simpler and less expensive.
