MOX Underhung Crane is a type of overhead crane that features a unique design where the hoisting mechanism and trolley run underneath the bridge girder, rather than being mounted on top, as seen in conventional overhead cranes. This design offers several advantages, especially in environments where space constraints and flexibility are important.

Key Features of the MOX Underhung Crane:
  1. Underhung Design:

    • In an underhung crane, the trolley and hoist travel on rails mounted on the underside of the bridge girder. This is the opposite of traditional cranes, where the trolley is mounted above the girder.
    • This configuration allows for better utilization of vertical space, as the crane does not require a large gap between the bridge and the ceiling.
  2. Space Efficiency:

    • The underhung crane is particularly useful in environments with low headroom or where space optimization is a concern. By utilizing the underside of the girder for travel, this design allows the crane to work in tighter spaces with less clearance required.
    • This feature is especially valuable in warehouses, smaller manufacturing plants, or areas where building height is limited.
  3. Light to Medium Duty Applications:

    • MOX underhung cranes are typically used for light to medium-duty applications. They are suitable for handling loads in the range of a few tons to 20-30 tons, though the capacity can vary depending on the specific design and requirements.
    • These cranes are often used for handling light equipment, small components, or bulk materials in industrial environments.
  4. Reduced Building Infrastructure Requirements:

    • Since the underhung crane runs beneath the bridge girder, the structural requirements for the building are less demanding compared to cranes that have to support a full bridge structure on top. This can result in cost savings in terms of both crane construction and the design of the building or structure where the crane operates.
    • The need for additional runway support beams is reduced, which makes the installation simpler and less expensive.
  5. Precision and Smooth Operation:

    • MOX underhung cranes are designed for smooth operation and precise control, which is crucial when lifting lighter loads that require careful handling. This makes them ideal for environments where load positioning is important, such as assembly lines, maintenance areas, and small-scale manufacturing.
  6. Ease of Installation and Maintenance:

    • The underhung crane design is generally easier and quicker to install because it doesn’t require complex overhead infrastructure. Additionally, maintenance is easier to perform due to the more compact design.
    • The crane can also be easily reconfigured or relocated if necessary, especially in warehouses or areas with changing layouts.
  7. Cost-Effective:

    • MOX underhung cranes are more economical compared to traditional overhead cranes, primarily due to the reduced structural requirements for the building and the crane itself.
    • The simplified design also reduces operational and maintenance costs, making it a cost-effective option for industries with lighter load handling needs.
